10 MCU Movies Blatantly Inspired By Other Movies

3. Captain Marvel/Top Gun

Perhaps lending a reason as to why so many people tend to not care for this movie - besides the loudest detractors being the sorts of people we don't mention in polite company - is this: a lot of people still don't like Tom Cruise.

So of course anything resembling Tome Cruise at his most Tom Cruisiness - that being the glorious piece of 80's cheese that was Top Gun - would set some people off. And to be fair, there are more than a few surface level similarities between the two. This is most obvious during the military recruitment ads barely disguised as scenes of Carol and her friends boarding their jet fighters.

Like with Top Gun, these scenes frame the jet fighters, and Carol's military training, with an almost pornographic quality usually reserved for directors like Michael Bay.

While Captain Marvel at least has the distinction of those scenes being flashbacks, and thus idyllic by design, there's still an unmistakable similarity between these two films that suggests that directors Boden and Fleck took more than a few cues from this 80's classic.
