10 MCU Plot Holes That Aren't Actually Plot Holes

1. Banner Suddenly Learns To Control His Hulk Powers - The Avengers

This problem has been brought up time and time again since The Avengers first opened, but the moment in which Bruce Banner transforms into the Hulk and takes down a Chitauri Leviathan - while in full control of his actions - is perfectly in keeping with everything we already know about the character.

Bruce didn't suddenly develop this power right when it became useful. In fact, he can already control his Hulk transformations at the beginning of the movie; we just aren't shown this till later on.

There's a ton of supporting evidence. Right at the start of the movie, Natasha Romanoff travels to India to try and bring Bruce in quietly. At one point in their conversation, Bruce angrily lashes out at her, just so he can see her reaction. Would he deliberately make himself angry if he knew there was a chance the Hulk could be unleashed? Of course not - because he can already control his powers.

Then, flash-forward to the timebomb argument scene. Here, Bruce literally says he will show the other Avengers that he can transform at will ("You wanna know my secret Agent Romanoff, you wanna know how I stay calm?"), but is interrupted by the beeping computer.

Another huge indicator was the final shot of the oft-forgotten - but still relevant - The Incredible Hulk, which shows Edward Norton (as the same Bruce Banner) meditating, before his eyes, which are tinged with the Hulk's signature green, snap open.

The reason why Hulk turned aggressive on the helicarrier is because he was being manipulated by Loki and the Mind Stone, and Hawkeye's explosion caught him off guard. He only lost control due to the unprecedented nature of the circumstances, but usually, he's in full control of his abilities.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
