10 MCU Plot Points Marvel Has Completely Abandoned

6. Erik Selvig's Work At The New Avengers Facility

Over the course of the MCU, Doctor Erik Selvig has proven himself a valuable ally of Thor, The Avengers, and SHIELD.

Unfortunately, after being exposed to (and broken out of) the mind-controlling effects of Loki's staff, he went a bit cuckoo, leading to him prancing naked around Stonehenge and being locked up in a mental institution.

He soon got back on his feet, and at the end of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, he can be seen wandering around The New Avengers facility, his new place of work.

So... what exactly has he been doing this whole time?

Selvig is one of the brightest minds in the MCU so he wouldn't be brought onboard the Avengers operation just to be a pencil-pusher, but then again, The Avengers never really seem to report back to base in search of intel. What is Selvig working on, and will he have any valuable information for the team further down the line?

Selvig isn't in Thor: Ragnarok and he's also not been officially confirmed for Avengers: Infinity War or its sequel (although the actor has said he may appear in Infinity War) so it's unclear when we'll see him next, if at all.

The smart bet is that he's working on tracking down the Infinity Stones, but until Marvel address the issue directly, we'll just have to assume he's festering away at a desk doing a regular nine-to-five.
