10 MCU Plot Points Marvel Has Completely Abandoned
2. Tony's PTSD
Iron Man 3 was all about Tony Stark coping with the aftermath of his alien encounter in The Avengers. His post-traumatic stress disorder strains his relationship with Pepper, as his over-reliance on the Iron Man suits becomes dangerously obsessive.
During the movie he does grow and he does learn to stop being so attached to his armour, but the post-credits scene shows him in a therapy session with Bruce Banner, implying that he's still not over all the stress and worry that The Battle Of New York caused him.
Even without this scene it would be safe to assume Tony is still haunted by those events. He nearly died in space while surrounded by aliens - that's not something you forget easily.
But since Iron Man 3, the MCU has forgotten about Tony's internal struggle, moving it to one side for his appearances in Age Of Ultron, Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Yes, those movies had a lot going on, but seriously... not one scene that shows Tony struggling to sleep? Not one flashback to his near-death experience? Not one line of dialogue where he explains how he feels about all this?
This is a glaring omission that makes Tony feel less human; more like an impenetrable badass than a believable character with flaws and problems. After Iron Man 3 spent so much time fleshing his character out, it feels like all that effort has been wasted.
