Shifting gears somewhat now from those on-screen queries to the mysteries of the behind-the-scenes process that goes into mapping out the MCU as a whole.

It has to be said that the sheer amount of planning and preparation that must go into forging an entire Phase of MCU movies, never mind the entire Infinity Saga, is enough to leave a mere mortal needing a hit of Super Soldier Serum to keep our heads from melting. But the reality of this always expanding universe is actually a little more realistic than you'd expect.

As revealed by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige during a Reddit Ask Me (Almost) Anything, the entire crossover universe we know and adore today to this point wasn't completely planned out to be presented as such from the get-go. In Feige's words:

"We usually work with a specific 5-year plan at any given point but often have a general plan that extends much, much further."

This likely refers to the studio having set points like Infinity War and End Game as main goals for much further down the road, whilst still leaving them enough wiggle room to adapt should a new IP present itself for use, à la Spider-Man.
