10 Misleading Movie Trailers That Totally Fooled You
6. Cabin In The Woods - Tricking The Audience You're Insulting Into Watching Your Film
The Cabin In The Woods trailer seemed to be advertising a gory, braindead romp akin to some of horror's most famous slasher movies, like Cabin Fever and Wrong Turn. The trailer boasted teenage stereotypes, desolate woodland scenery, creepy hillbillies, scary zombies and the age-old cliché: "we should split up".
The film, to most people, looked like a disappointing and lazy rehash of old classics, and dissuaded a lot of horror fans from going to see the movie. BUT, for horror fanatics that unabashedly love these objectively bad movies, the Cabin In The Woods' trailer seemed to promise them everything they could possibly want in a movie.
So you can imagine how miffed these moviegoers were when they payed astronomical cinema prices to sit in a movie screen where they are completely ridiculed for almost 2 hours. Because, in reality, Cabin In The Woods was a movie that used meta-comedy to hold up a mirror to horror fans, forcing them to reflect on their weird love of pointless gore and clichéd slasher tropes.
But these moviegoers couldn't possibly be mad at the film, because it was just such a clever and inventive movie!
