10 Moments In Horror Where Actors Weren't Acting

3. Matthew Lillard - Scream

Even though Wes Craven's innovative slasher was released 29 years ago, we'll offer a spoiler warning, since this entry involves the identities of the killers.

During the climax, Sidney (Neve Campbell) discovers the Ghostface murders were carried out by her boyfriend, Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) and her friend, Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard). After Billy and Stu get momentarily distracted, Sidney runs away and calls the cops. She then phones Billy and begins to chastise him.

At this moment, Skeet was meant to hurl the phone out of frustration. However, he accidentally threw the phone at Lillard, clonking him on the head, causing him to let out a pathetic whimper. Instead of stopping the take, Lillard rolled with the punch and improvised the hilarious line, "Ow! Way to hit me with the phone, dick!"

This line seemed on brand with Stu's character and fit with the chaotic energy of the scene so Craven decided to leave it in.

Even though Skeet's slip-up could've completely ruined the take, Lillard's quick-thinking created one of the most memorable and funniest moments in the franchise.
