It's not exactly uncommon for a world renowned singing sensation to try their hand at holding their own in the dramatic acting sphere, seen in the likes of Lady Gaga, Jennifer Hudson, and Barbara Streisand, to name a few, all enjoying a decent amount of critical success in their ventures into the acting world.

Yet, not every star hits all the right notes when the time finally comes to spread those acting wings, and that's something arguably the biggest popstar on the planet at the time found out the hard way in 1997. After pouring her heart out through the masterful tunes brought to life by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, Madonna still couldn't do enough to convince the Academy that her depiction of Eva Perón was worthy of consideration.

The unmistakable singer was able to walk out of the Golden Globes with the gong for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. But the fact the film's sole Oscar's win came in the form of a Best Original Song victory for "You Must Love Me" reflected how the Academy clearly felt the film's real strength lay in its songwriting and not Madonna's performance.
