10 More Amazing Trailers That Tricked You Into Seeing Terrible Horror Movies

5. IT Chapter 2

It Chapter Two Pennywise Death
Warner Bros.

Despite have a lot to live up to, IT surpassed expectations and went on to become the most successful R-rated horror ever, a record that still stands today.

And yet, early signs indicated the sequel could turn out better. The trailer depicted old images of Pennywise, indicating the interdimensional entity's origins would be thoroughly explored.

Although IT Chapter 2 focused on The Losers Club members as adults, the marketing emphasised the young cast from the original would feature prominently. Since the kid actors' were praised for their performances in the first instalment, fans were excited to see them returning.

Ironically, the flashbacks of The Losers Club were among the weakest aspects of the sequel. The teen actors had noticeably aged, compelling the filmmakers to digitally alter their voices and appearance, which was gratingly distracting.

Regardless what the promotions suggested, Pennywise's past is barely explored. Bill Skarsgard gives another towering performance, but it would've been nice to learn more about the wonky-eyed clown, especially after his backstory was hinted at in the trailers.

Furthermore, IT Chapter Two is way too long. Considering how many excess scenes there are, there's no reason why this lacklustre sequel needed to be almost three hours.
