10 More Apocalypse Horrors That Broke All The Rules

7. Grabbers

Return of the Living Dead
Sony Pictures/Element Pictures

Perhaps the most purely underseen film on this list, Irish monster comedy Grabbers takes place on a remote Irish island which is terrorised by bloodsucking tentacled aliens.

The locals soon enough discover, however, that the creatures are allergic to alcohol, and so decide to get positively s**tfaced in order to stave off death.

A strong argument for possibly the most quintessentially Irish movie ever made, Grabbers' unique tone and setting ensure it's a monster movie like no other, lovingly dabbling in national stereotypes in the pursuit of a riotously off-the-wall creature feature.

Given that the general advice in most end-of-the-world movies is to keep sober-headed for the sake of your own survival, for Grabbers to offer up the polar opposite solution helps it stand out in an incredibly crowded genre field. If you've not seen it yet, pour yourself a tipple and give it a go.
