10 More Apocalypse Horrors That Broke All The Rules

6. Maggie

Return of the Living Dead
Lionsgate

Once upon a time the words "Arnold Schwarzenegger in a zombie movie" would've conjured imagery of Arnie sinking thousands of machine-gun rounds into a never-ending fleet of the hungry undead, but by 2015, that ship had long sailed.

And truly, it's probably for the best, given that Maggie offered Arnie one of his grandest ever opportunities to do some real, honest-to-God dramatic acting.

Arnie stars as Wade Vogel, who is forced to come to terms with the fact that his titular beloved daughter (Abigail Breslin) is turning into a zombie.

What really sets Maggie apart isn't just its devotion to character development but the fact that the zombie infection is treated almost like a degenerative disease, given that victims take up to two months to fully transform into cannibalistic abominations.

That gives both father and daughter an excruciating amount of time to consider their impending problem, ensuring that this is a uniquely devastating - if certainly imperfect - attempt to do something very different with the zombie film.
