If Spring didn't make it obvious enough, Justin Benson and Aaron Morehead are masters at designing memorable monsters that defy all expectations. In their recent flick After Midnight they continue this trend with a beast you won't soon forget.

Much in the vein of the likes of Alien and Jaws, this mean machine of teeth and claws is only glimpsed at for a majority of the film. However, that doesn't stop it's presence from being felt.

What really gives this the number one spot is how the creature reveal is done. Without giving too much away, when this thing shows up, not only is it in a moment that is totally unexpected, but its abrupt invasion of the screen will come like a punch straight to the gut.

Even more, we get a full on look at it as well, allowing for us to see it in all its beastly glory. Far too many movies have failed to pay off on their build up, but After Midnight does not make that mistake.
