10 Brilliant Movie Plot Twists That Don't Actually Make Sense

6. Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire - Barty Crouch Jr's Plan

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is a tremendous fantasy blockbuster that's arguably the best Harry Potter film to date (or certainly near the top of the list, anyhow), and one of the many reasons for this is its twisty, endlessly entertaining mystery storyline. Who entered Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) into a dangerous magical tournament, and why?

Well, it eventually turns out to be a villainous Death Eater named Barty Crouch Jr (a pre-Doctor Who David Tennant), who's disguised himself as Hogwarts professor Mad-Eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson). The whole time, Crouch has been using a potion to disguise himself and has kept the real Mad-Eye imprisoned in his office.

Crouch ensured that Harry ended up in the tournament and also ensured that he won each game so that he'd get the prize cup... which had been replaced with a magic device that teleports Harry to a remote graveyard. There, Harry is used in a ritual that resurrects franchise antagonist Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), and he barely escapes with his life.

As is the case with much of the Harry Potter series, it's a fantastically fun storyline filled with clever plot twists. And yet... there are plot holes, there's no getting away from that. The whole idea of several schools taking part in a potentially deadly tournament is pretty bonkers to begin with, and if Harry had died during any of the games it would all have been for nothing. Furthermore, wasn't there a simpler way to get Harry out of Hogwarts?
