10 More Great Horror Movie Scenes When Evil Characters Turned Good

This lot may be thieves, thugs, and killers, but they're not all bad.

When it comes to slashers, zombie flicks, and sci-fi horrors, it's usually pretty cut and dry who the villain is. Even before Freddy Krueger, the Xenomorphs, or Art the Clown start mutilating everybody left, right, and centre, it's pretty obvious they're the big bad.

Of course, there are a couple of killers in horror whose villainy is more ambiguous, as can be seen in Saw and Carrie, but there are also certain movies where the evildoer does a total 180 at some point, joining forces with the good guys or sacrificing themselves for the greater good.

This transition tends to be gradual, but there's often one defining scene that showcases these former baddies are now playing on the side of the angels. Watching these supposedly irredeemable monsters develop a conscience isn't just satisfying, but can serve as an unexpected twist in the eleventh hour.

We've covered this subject in the previous 10 Best Horror Scenes Where Evil Characters Turned Good, but we managed to find ten more examples of characters who, despite their wicked demeanour, proved to have a sliver of good buried deep within.

10. Seth Gecko - From Dusk Till Dawn

In From Dusk 'Till Dawn, fugitive brothers Seth and Richie Gecko take Jacob Fuller and his family hostage to help them cross into Mexico, planning to meet the Geckos' criminal contact at a biker bar.

For the first hour, Seth doesn't just come across as a lowlife but irredeemable. This trigger-happy thief antagonises everybody he lays eyes on and emphasises he couldn't care less if the Fullers live or die. Of course, Seth changes his tune upon learning the bar he's in is a haven for vampires. With the odds stacked against him, he reluctantly allies with the Fullers, hoping to stay alive until dawn.

By the time day breaks, everyone is dead, save for Seth and Jacob's daughter, Kate. Rather than deserting her the first chance he gets, Seth gives Kate a wad of cash for her troubles and apologises for everything he put her through. Not knowing where to go, Kate asks Seth if she could join him. Concerned that staying with him would corrupt her, Seth turns Kate down.

Until the end, it seems like Seth only teamed up with the family to stand a better chance of survival, but in the final scene, it's apparent that Seth does have a conscience after all.
