10 More Great Horror Movie Scenes When Evil Characters Turned Good
3. Abigail Lazaar - Abigail
Based on the 1936 film Dracula's Daughter, Abigail opens with a group of mercenaries kidnapping a young ballet dancer, oblivious that she's a vampire.
Despite her innocent appearance, it's hard to think of a vampire in cinema who displays more childlike glee as she gorges on her victims. The way the titular bloodsucker pirouettes and twirls between sucking her prey dry is akin to a cat playing with its food. Even though these mercs aren't exactly angels, Abigail is infinitely worse.
Or maybe not. When one of the criminals, Frank, becomes vampirized, Abigail partners up with one of the remaining survivors, a mother called Joey, to defeat him. Abigail develops a kinship with Joey after learning that she's desperate to reunite with her son, whom she lost contact with. Abigail has sought the approval of her father Kristof for centuries, so she understands Joey's desire to reconnect with her family.
After Frank is killed, Kristof appears and threatens to slaughter Joey then and there. However, Abigail defends Joey, pointing out that she was there to protect Abigail when her father was absent. Despite his malevolent nature, Kristof is swayed by his daughter's words and agrees to let Joey go.
Based on Abigail's maliciousness in the first two acts, viewers would've never expected to be cheering her on in the closing moments.
