7. The Woman

Saint Maud
The Collective

This Offspring sequel centres around a female cannibal who finds herself to be the last of her tribe. And just when it looks like things couldn't get worse, she's kidnapped by a family man called Chris who hopes to domesticate her.

Though Chris is a misogynist, he believes he's a good person since he's trying to civilise a mindless savage. But as time goes by, there's no denying he's the monster of the two.

Although it's obvious Chris harbours a dark side, first-timers don't realise how irredeemable he is. The unnamed female is no angel, but she seems pure of heart compared to Chris, especially when he indulges in his depraved fantasies.

The Woman harbours many nerve-shredding images, involving gouged eyes and a prolonged heart-eating sequence. Even if you have the stomach for the gross stuff, the drawn-out scenes involving sexual violence will test anybody.

While it could've been a trashy horror like its predecessor, The Woman elevates itself by successfully exploring misogyny, sexual violence, and hypocritical morals in a fresh and creative way. Nevertheless, you'll be hard-pressed to find someone who will want to go for round two with this film.
