10 MORE Great Horror Movies You'll Only Watch Once
6. Climax
Gaspar Noe's warped thriller Climax starts with a group of urban dancers celebrating their final rehearsal by guzzling a few glasses of sangria. When the troop start feeling dizzy and erratic, they realise somebody has spiked the bowl. As the effects of the drugs intensify, it isn't long before everyone is at each other's throats, vicious truths are uncovered, and bodies start to pile up.
What makes Climax stand out is the fact it was shot in extremely long takes, one of which lasts 42 minutes. Although this decision could come across as gimmicky, it was the right move, as the extended shots don't just amplify the disorientation and paranoia, but allow the audience to feel like they're experiencing the psychedelic trip as well.
As uncomfortable as it is to watch, you can't keep your eyes off the action since you need to know where this is all leading to and, more importantly, how bad it's going to get. Also, there really is no other movie like Climax, so horror veterans will feel like they need to experience it at least once.
However, considering Climax feels more like a panic attack than a movie, you'll have little drive to revisit it.
