10 More Horror Movie Characters You Couldn't Wait To See Die

2. Claire - Superhost

Much like Ben in The Deep House, Claire of Superhost was all about the clicks, likes, and subscribes.

Before getting too much into the nitty gritty, mind, your humble scribe would implore you to watch Superhost ASAP. Nowadays available on Shudder, this Brandon Christensen-penned-and-helmed offering is a hugely impressive picture that unfortunately flew a little under the radar when it was released at the tail-end of 2021 and across 2022.

Back to the plot, then, Claire (Sara Canning) and Teddy (Osric Chau) are two lovebirds who make their living as travel vloggers. When their latest trip away sees them staying at the abode of "superhost" Rebecca (a phenomenal Gracie Gillam), Claire spots the opportunity to use the quirky Rebecca as a way to improve their viewership numbers.

While Teddy is a happy-go-lucky sort who views this trip as the perfect opportunity to propose to Claire, his beau is laser-focussed on nothing but content, content, content - to the point that, when Teddy does propose, Claire gets all emotional, say yes, ends the recording, and congratulates Teddy on this being a great way to get views.

As for Rebecca, she's not actually a host at all, and is in fact a deranged murderer who killed an elderly couple and started renting out their house. So, when Rebecca slits Claire's throat in the film's final minutes, it's somewhat satisfying to see such a soulless, self-centred, social media-obsessed character get dealt with.
