10 MORE Horror Movie Monsters That Shouldn’t Have Worked… But Did
4. The Hand - Splinter
In Splinter, Seth and Polly are on a camping trip when an escaped convict, Dennis, abducts them and drags them to an abandoned gas station. Just when it seems like things couldn't get worse, the group is assaulted by spiky zombies, who've been exposed to a mind-altering fungus.
Now, zombies are normally creepy because they attack as a horde, but since there are only a handful of ghouls, Seth and the rest look like they shouldn't be in too much danger.
However, these pincushion freaks aren't regular zombies, since they're faster, more durable, and strong enough to tear a person in half. Even when the group chops off a zombie's hand, they make the situation worse since the disembodied limb takes on a life of its own.
Although being chased by a hand sounds like something out of The Addams Family, seeing the oozing appendage scuttling around with purposeful ferocity is stomach-churning. Its fingers move like spider legs, so this sequence is likely to trigger arachnophobes.
Even though the zombie hand could've deflated the atmosphere, it's probably the most memorable part of the movie.
