10 MORE Horror Movies That Will Make You Say WTF Did I Just Watch?

6. The Stuff

In Larry Cohen's dark comedy, humanity finds themselves being attacked and mind-controlled by evil yoghurt.

Considering the plot sounds like it was concocted from a Mad Lib, The Stuff is a real movie and just as zany as you'd expect. Part of the absurdity comes from how casual every thing plays out. A goo found bubbling out of the ground becomes a national food craze with no resistance, and characters accept this with baffling calm.

The Stuff moves, whispers, and takes over bodies, yet the film treats these events with a deadpan attitude that undercuts traditional horror tension. The disjointed pacing, dream-like performances, and elaborate but cheap effects amplify the oddness even more.

However, the strangest thing about The Stuff is that it's actually pretty solid. Anybody who sits down to watch a movie about murderous dessert probably didn't anticipate a well-written satire and biting social commentaries about corporate greed and consumerism that are more relevant now than ever. As a result, there are times where The Stuff feels less like a horror spoof and more like an unhinged cultural rant.
