10 MORE Horror Movies Where The Monster Isn't The Villain
1. An American Werewolf In London
Seriously, how did we miss this one on our last list?
In the beginning of John Landis' horror-comedy, friends David and Jack are mauled by a werewolf, with the latter dying from his wounds. While David recovers, he's pestered by an undead vision of Jack, who informs his friend that the curse has passed onto him.
Sure enough, David metamorphosises into a werewolf at the next full moon, butchering six pedestrians during his first hairy turn, and killing a whole bunch of motorists and bystanders during the film's finale.
Of course, David isn't to blame since he has no control when he transforms, nor does he recollect these events. Even though David is a victim, he blames himself for his actions and has himself arrested. Unable to live with what he's done, he says goodbye to his family, intending to put himself out of his misery.
While in beast mode during the climax, you can see David trying to suppress his savagery, especially when he's confronted by his girlfriend. Sadly, the bloodlust is too powerful for David to overcome, causing him to lash out. And by the time he's shot dead, David is relieved as he couldn't live, knowing the unintentional suffering he caused.
