Just because the monsters on this list aren't villains doesn't necessarily mean they're nice. That statement is applicable to Thir13en Ghosts, since many of the titular spooks are evil incarnate.

The 2001 remake kicks off with widower Arthur inheriting the mansion of his uncle, Cyrus. After moving in, the family discovers the house contains a ghost-powered machine that connects to the afterlife. Over the years, Cyrus collected spirits, hoping to use them to activate the device.

Even though the ghosts are terrifying, several of them pose no threat whatsoever. One of them is a child, and even Arthur's innocent wife is among their ranks.

Sure, there are a few wicked wraiths like the Jackal and the Hammer, but they're merely a means to an end. During the climax, it's revealed Cyrus faked his death to lure Arthur's family to the house and use one of their souls to trigger the machine. Despite the ghosts' intimidating nature, they're more like attack dogs than villains, since Cyrus has been pulling the strings the entire time.

Also, the spirits redeem themselves a little by the end, as once they realise they've been manipulated, the ghosts murder Cyrus and move onto the afterlife after the machine is destroyed.
