In sticking with the theme of the MonsterVerse, let's now jump from Godzilla to its frenemy, King Kong. The beast has been around for decades, and before Kong: Skull Island and the subsequent Godzilla crossovers, there was King Kong in 2005, and even a potential movie before that that never saw the light of day.

For this, we need to jump to 1998's Deep Rising, starring Treat Williams and Famke Janssen. The film told the story of a huge sea-dwelling creature attacking and killing the passengers of a cruise ship out in the open sea.

After fighting off and ultimately seeing the Octalus killed, three survivors washed up onto an island, seemingly putting the ordeal behind them. However, from the interior of the island came a blood-curdling shriek followed by an incredibly cheesy "Now what?" and the rolling of credits. The cringeworthy line delivery aside, this could have set the characters up for a brush with one of the most famous monsters in the world.

The beach that they washed up on was reportedly planned to be none other than Skull Island, and the creature of course being King Kong. In a similar way to how many believed the movie Life in 2017 was to be a secret Venom prequel, Deep Rising was to be exactly that for the Eighth Wonder of the World.
