10 More Movie Scenes More Real Than You Think
3. Harrison Ford Dived Into The Middle Of A Real Parade - The Fugitive
Though you would understandably assume that the average person would quickly recognise a movie star as famous as Harrison Ford wandering through the middle of a real St. Patrick's Day parade, the legendary actor was actually able to legitimately go unnoticed in the thick of a completely real parade whilst shooting The Fugitive.
That's right, during the scene that shows Dr. Richard Kimble trying to blend in with the crowd in Chicago in that 1993 classic, the filmmakers didn't create a fully choreographed fake gathering of hundreds of extras.
Instead, they decided to genuinely dump Ford into the middle of an actual parade going down in real life (via SlashFilm) after director Andrew Davis got permission from the city to film in one.
This hugely real moment involving a framed Kimble being hunted down by Tommy Lee Jones' U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard was captured on a Steadicam, with camera operator Robert Ulland wandering around the real parade and catching shots of Ford and Jones as the former attempted to keep his head down in a green hat amidst the crowd.
And the Star Wars and Indiana Jones superstar was remarkably able to keep from getting spotted for quite some time during the unrehearsed sequence. However, his co-star Lee Jones wasn't quite as lucky, with Davis noting (via USA Today) how the jumping around Under Siege star was "much more noticeable" on the day.
