10 More Movies Where Evil Won

3. Nightcrawler

Gone Girl Rosamund Pike
Open Road Films

You could generously call Nightcrawler's protagonist Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) "a bit of a character," or more accurately, a flaming sociopath.

It doesn't take long for the film to confirm that Lou - an ambitious videographer who sells violent footage to local news stations - is a deeply bad dude, and if you were hoping that he might change his ways or at least get some well-earned comeuppance by film's end, you're all outta luck.

Lou's increasingly nefarious acts - such as sabotaging the vehicles of rival stringers and recording the brutal aftermath - culminate in him engineering the death of his assistant Rick (Riz Ahmed) and even filming his final moments, because why the hell not? In for a penny, in for a pound.

By film's end Lou has managed to wriggle free of the police's investigations of his activity, and better still, he hires a pool of interns as his business continues to grow, his utter disregard for anyone not himself only further enriching him.
