One of the most challenging aspects of working with children on feature film projects is the speed at which they can grow and mature over the course of filming.

Famously, James Cameron had to literally have his crew dig holes in the ground to accommodate Edward Furlong's growth spurt during Terminator 2, but sadly, not all filmmakers are quite that discerning.

2004's adaptation of Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events was hamstrung by this very issue.

14-year-old Liam Aiken, who played Klaus Baudelaire in the movie, started production roughly the same size as his co-star and screen sister Emily Browning, but by the time production had wrapped and basic pick-ups had been completed, he was noticeably taller.

As a result Klaus' height basically yo-yos over the course of the movie, between being almost level with Browning to towering over her by around a foot. Not a deal-breaker, but tough to ignore when you're in the know.
