10 More Movies Where The Reshoots Were Painfully Obvious
2. Deadly Friend
When horror master Wes Craven attempted to branch out into the fields of psychological thriller and tech paranoia, the studio was having none of it.
The Nightmare on Elm Street director envisioned Deadly Friend as a PG13-rated exploration of the subject matter, but the nuanced version he shot caught test audiences off guard.
They were expecting a gore fest with jump scares and buckets of blood, and Warner Bros strong-armed Craven into shooting a bunch of extra scenes to reflect this.
It's obvious the blood, guts and mayhem were thrown into Deadly Friend as an afterthought because these scenes land with all of the subtlety of a falling piano. For instance, there's a scene where a woman's head explodes like a watermelon on impact with a basketball, completely out of nowhere.
Both Craven and screenwriter Bruce Joel Rubin fell out with Warner over their interference and ultimately disowned the film.
