10 More Unexpected Transformations In Zombie Movies

8. Don - 28 Weeks Later

After the critical success of 28 Days Later, a sequel was practically guaranteed. Rather than giving fans more of the same, 28 Weeks Later introduced a new concept that made the zombies far scarier - asymptomatic zombies.

In the opening, Don and his wife Alice are hiding in a cottage when they're attacked by Rage-infected savages. After Alice is cornered, Don abandons her, believing she is beyond saving.

Later that year, Don is relieved (and deeply confused) to learn Alice survived her encounter and is being held in a medical facility. Desperate for forgiveness, he breaks into her room and kisses Alice affectionately, causing her to pass the Rage onto him. Though Alice harbours no violent side effects from the virus, the same cannot be said for her husband.

Seconds after being infected, Don begins convulsing in agony. He tries his best to fight the Rage off, but it's clearly a losing battle. After succumbing to the virus, Don repeatedly pounds his dear wife in the head full-force before ripping her face off.

Alice's death by Don's hands is all the more harrowing, since he behaved so tenderly towards her before being reborn as an Infected.
