Release Date - June 24th 2022

The Black Phone is based on the 2004 short story of the same name, authored by Stephen King's son, Joe Hill. It revolves around a boy called Finney who's kidnapped by a serial killer called The Grabber. After being imprisoned in a soundproof basement, Finney receives calls from a disconnected phone from the killer's deceased victims. Through these conversations, the spirits help Finney find a way to escape.

Although the film adaptation debuted at Fantastic Fest last September, it won't be officially released for a couple of months. But according to the early reviews, The Black Phone may be the best film Scott Derrickson has directed. Considering this is the same filmmaker behind Sinister and Doctor Strange, that is an tantalising claim. But the film has received nothing but praise so far due to the director's skill to seamlessly mix psychological, physical, and paranormal horror.

However, it is Ethan Hawke's mesmerising but chilling performance as The Grabber that's generating the most buzz. Even though the public's opinion may differ from the critics, Derrickson's work has rarely disappointed and The Black Phone has all the workings of a classic.
