10 Most Anticipated Horror Movies Still To Come In 2024

5. Alien: Romulus

It's been a wobbly old ride for the Alien franchise over the decades. Obviously, the first two Alien movies are absolute classics, stunningly meshing all-out horror with chilling sci-fi and, in the case of Aliens, dropping in a healthy dose of action.

Since then? Eh, it's been far from smooth sailing for this IP, with the problematic production of Alien 3, the bland and tired Alien: Resurrection, those two awful Alien vs Predator pictures, and Ridley Scott's opinion-splitting Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. And that's not to mention the disappointment held by many fans at the decision to scrap Neill Blomkamp's Aliens follow-up that would've brought back Hicks and Newt.

Now though, there's a whiff of excitement in the air for Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus. Headed up by Golden Globe nominee Cailee Spaeny, Romulus will focus on a group of young space colonists who find themselves coming up against the franchise's famed beasties when exploring the abandoned Renaissance space station. Adding further intrigue, the film will be set between the events of Alien and Aliens, and the early images and footage certainly pay plentiful homage to the aesthetic of those two movies.
