1. Bane Breaks The Bat - The Dark Knight Rises

You'd think that the moments that would leave fans almost punching the air in Batman movie history would be those that saw him standing victorious over his enemies, but there is nothing that really comes close to the hugely-hyped battle between Bale's frail Bat and Tom Hardy's monstrous Bane. And that doesn't really end well for Gotham's protector.

The scene is one of the most difficult scenes to watch in comic book movie history: the violence is visceral and terrifying, and there's an almost gleeful pitch black catharsis in Bane's dismantling of not only Wayne's body, but also the untouchable mythology of the Dark Knight.

As every punch lands, we watch this heroic pillar disintegrate, recapturing the seminal Knightfall fight - and you can feel every shockwave that will blossom from his defeat even before the "killer' blow has landed.
