9. Interrogation And The Joker's Escape

The Joker's interrogation in The Dark Knight is effectively the symbolic meeting of an irresistible force and an immovable object, as the two sides of the same coin clash with devastating impact.

Furiously inspired by the impending deaths of Harvey Dent and Rachel, Batman greets the Joker's smarmy "good cop, bad cop routine" snarl with immediate, pointed violence, smashing his head off the table. It's an atypically personal rage, and Christian Bale's performance really sells the weight of the moment: he's desperate and outsmarted for once and the Joker has all the power.

And then, in an even more beautiful pay-off, we learn that this was all part of his plan all along, and it's almost like he was courting this violence as a sort of foreplay to the main event of his ingenious escape plan.
