6. Vanessa Redgrave Speaks Her Mind At The Oscars
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAcOsK9gRLk Vanessa Redgrave won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1978 for her portrayal as an anti-Nazi activist in the film Julia. I admire Redgrave as an actress very much but I cannot comment on her political actions. In 1978 Redgrave gave money to and narrated a pro-Palestinian, anti-Zionism documentary about the plight of the Palestinians. Members of the Jewish Defence League picketed the Red Carpet. In her speech, Redgrave praised the audience for not being intimidated by "Zionist hoodlums" who give Jewish people a bad name. The audience was a bit taken aback but if you have strong principles, I believe you have to stand by them.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
