1. The Woman On The Pole - Cannibal Holocaust

A Serbian Film
United Artists Europa

Cannibal Holocaust is depicted like a documentary revolving around a group of explorers visiting the Amazon. Because mainstream fake documentaries weren't well known upon the film's release, many viewers believed Cannibal Holocaust was the real deal. Unsurprisingly, this led to cinema-goers experiencing a new level of revulsion as they watched scenes of forced penetration, animal slaughter, and cannibalism.

The death scenes were so convincing, some viewers absolutely believed the actors were killed! As a result, the director, Ruggero Deodato, was arrested for murder and tried at a court in Milan. The judge presented the film's most infamous shot; a woman impaled on a pole with one end penetrating her backside, protruding out of her mouth. Since you can tell the person in question wasn't a dummy, the court believed Deodato allowed this woman to be impaled in this manner.

The Italian director explained the shot was achieved by having the actress sitting on a bicycle seat that was attached to the pole's base. She then held a long pointed piece of wood in her mouth. After he brought the actors to the courtroom to prove they were very much alive, the charges against Deodato were dropped.
