10 Most Dark And Twisted Movie Scenes Of 2016
4. The Neon Demon – Necrophilia. Need We Say More?
Fashionista seppuku wasn’t the most
disturbing moment that Nicolas Winding Refn treated us to in The Neon Demon. That
dubious honour goes to a scene in which Jena Malone’s character Ruby, a makeup
artist who moonlights as a mortuary beautician, breaks just about every rule in
the morgue worker’s handbook and sleeps with a client.
The thing is, that client just so happens to be dead. After Ruby has her advances rebuffed by Elle Fanning’s naïve and narcissistic model character Jesse, she trots off to her second job and finds consolation by indulging in a spot posthumous congress with a female cadaver.
Yes, Refn went there. Necrophilia. Which alongside some other equally off-putting and unmentionable acts is one of the last great taboo subjects of cinema. No doubt it’s there for shock value’s sake – after all, who includes a sex scene with a dead person without hoping to stir up a bit of controversy?
But considering Refn’s last film Only God Forgives featured underage prostitute murder, incestuous undertones and severed hands aplenty, it’s probably only par for the course that he’d one day give us a scene as twisted as this.
