10 Most Dark And Twisted Movie Scenes Of 2016

Fede Alvarez gave us a taste of what to expect from his horror movies with his remake of Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead and while Don’t Breathe is nowhere near an all-out gore fest, it’s got one scene that’s as gross and off-putting as Evil Dead’s torrent of blood, vomit and other such bodily secretions.

Jane Levy stars as one of three teens that break into the Detroit home of a blind army veteran to steal a large sum of money he has received in a settlement after the death of his daughter in a car accident. Unfortunately for the young miscreants, he isn’t your typical burglary victim.

Turns out a combination of having seen some sh*t go down in the Iraq War, living in the USA’s former murder capital and being grief-stricken have caused him to become a little bit – shall we say – unhinged. So unhinged, in fact, that it soon transpires he’s abducted the woman responsible for his daughter’s death and impregnated her with his seed in a messed-up bid to replace the daughter he lost.

His wacky plan goes awry when he accidentally shoots dead his captive so off he goes for Levy’s character who he captures, straps up in a harness and prepares to artificially inseminate with a turkey baster.

The scene has been criticised as a lazy and gratuitous plot device put in the movie purely for shock’s sake and while there’s some truth to that, it definitely got people talking and no doubt contributed to the movie’s phenomenal financial success.

One thing’s for certain, though – preparing the Christmas turkey will never be the same again.
