10 Most Devastating MCU Deaths

5. Loki - Avengers: Infinity War

In a similar way to Vision, Loki has ‘died’ on several occasions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the God of Mischief, operating across any and all points on the spectrum of hero to villain and everything in between, he found himself in some dangerous situations.

At the end of Thor in 2011, Loki fell from the Rainbow Bridge to his apparent death, refusing to allow himself to be saved by his big brother. After miraculously surviving, he once again feigned death in Thor: The Dark World, this time sacrificing himself for his brother against Malekith. Thor even thought Loki had died when dropping Surtur’s crown into the Eternal Flame on Asgard, but he survived once again.

Not for long, however. When Thanos attacked the Asgardian ship at the start of Infinity War, Loki attempted to kill the Mad Titan only to be stopped first by the Space Stone, and then by a fatal broken neck.

It’s hard to say what made this death harder to take. The fact that it was for real after so many fake-outs? That it came just moments after he emotionally referred to himself as Odinson? That he did it not to save the world but to save his brother? Or that in doing so he finally became a hero? How about a combination of all four?
