10 Most Devastating MCU Deaths

4. Aunt May - Spider-Man: No Way Home

Everyone knows the story of Peter Parker’s origin, from the spider bite to the death of Uncle Ben. So much so that Marvel Studios showed neither in Spider-Man: Homecoming, simply vaguely referencing both before finally namedropping Uncle Ben in episode five of What If…?.

While fans of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man never got to see how he dealt with the passing of his uncle, quite surprisingly they got the other side of the coin in Spider-Man: No Way Home when Aunt May was killed. Nobody saw this coming.

While Peter thought he was doing the right thing in bringing the five multiversal threats back to Happy’s apartment, something he did on the advice of May herself, he didn’t reckon with the power of Normal Osborn’s alter-ego. The Green Goblin took great pleasure in ending the life of May and then blaming it on Peter.

As horrible as the death scene itself was, it was Tom Holland in the following moments that truly drove home how devastating this was. This was arguably his best work as Peter Parker, as Aunt May first delivered Ben’s line of great responsibility before becoming arguably Spider-Man’s greatest ever loss.
