10 Most Disappointing Movies Of 2019 (So Far)
4. The Dirt
What It Promised
A warts and all biopic of the most notorious rock and roll band of all time, who made hell-raising an art form. Surely, this would be a deep dive behind the legendary sins and misbehaviour, exploring the fallout of the deaths of Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle (in a car wreck caused by drunk driver Vince Neil) and of Skylar Neil as well as looking at Nikki Sixx's addiction battles, Tommy Lee's troubles with the law and Mick Mars' failing body.
That sort of story, plus the band's road exploits could have made a different breed of musical biopic far-removed from the overt, heavily-censored puff pieces we've seen elsewhere.
But Really...
It's good and an entertaining experience, but it doesn't really go far enough. The film is WAY more invested in showing off the band's dirt deeds without exploring what really went on behind them. It's made by Jeff Tremaine, so it's not too surprising that it boasts the same sort of dangerous hedonistic spirit as Jackass, but it's just a huge missed opportunity that we didn't get to see the substance behind the substance abuse.
