10 Most Disappointing Sci-Fi Movie Sequels Ever

2. Superman IV: The Quest For Peace

If we used the same philosophy we used to justify Terminator 3's position on this list here, we might have picked Superman III instead of this one (because that's where things started to go a bit wrong). But a standalone superhero film series as iconic as Christopher Reeve's Superman one could have easily bounced back from a lacklustre entry had the next one been great. But, oh boy, it wasn't.

Without question one of the worst superheroes movies ever made, Superman IV: The Quest For Peace remains a hard-watch to this day because of how far the hero's adventures had fallen from grace. Yes, the story was bland and uninteresting, but that wasn't even the worst thing about this sequel.

The budget restrictions were obvious from some absolutely terrible unfinished special effects and the lack of effort that was put into the production when compared to the first two films in the series was very noticeable.

So yeah, maybe Superman IV wasn't the disappointing entry in the franchise, it was the awful one. But the sight of Reeves' mighty Superman forced to work with some of the truly awful material he had here? Now that was disappointing.
