10 Most Disappointing Villains In Movie History
7. Ozymandias - Watchmen
Watchmen is one of my favourite things to have ever existed, and though I do think that Zack Snyder's movie suffers from its rigid "I'm an incredibly faithful adaptation, please don't hate me" sensibilities, it was actually pretty good. If you know Watchmen, you'll be familiar with the character of Ozymandias, who is described in the original comic book as "the smartest man on the planet." That's an incredible legacy for any actor to live up to.
And though Matthew Goode is (ahem) good in the role, I can't say he seems or feels right as Ozymandias to me, who is supposed to convince us that he is the greatest genius to have ever existed. Goode can't nail the role because... well, it's an incredibly difficult role to play, but there's something incredibly slimy and unlikeable about his take on the character that doesn't add up. Ozymandias isn't supposed to come across like a posh University graduate with a stinking attitude and an incredibly rich father, and yet... that's what we got.
