10 Most Disturbing Ways To Die In Sci-Fi Movies

8. The Thing - Assimilation

John Carpenter's horror masterpiece gave film fans one of the scariest aliens in cinema, and the reason it's so feared is the disturbing way it absorbs another lifeform with its own cells. This isn't like any old virus though, as The Thing puts on a terrifying spectacle to heighten the panic and pain its new host will go to while assimilating them.

The only time we get a look at it doing its thing where it has time to go at its own pace is when is gets poor Bennings, and the crew finds him naked with tentacles writhing around his body, and when the original dog is left in the kennels and erupts in a volcano of violence and gore.

When Garry is killed by the Thing, all it needs to do is touch his face with his hand to bind both their bodies together, muffling his agonized screams as their flesh becomes one. The thing only needs s small window of opportunity before you realize what's happening.

You'd feel the thing's tentacles writhing through your flesh, watching your own body warp in unimaginable ways, and feel completely helpless as your identity is stolen from you.

It's a slow, painful, and ugly way to go, and imagining going through the process consciously is nightmare fuel.
