10 Most Diverse Directors In Hollywood
5. Ridley Scott
Ridley Scott has been at the forefront of film-making for over 4 decades now. He burst onto the scene in 1979 with the sci fi horror classic Alien, a film that has aged incredibly well. Just three years later he had cemented himself as a science fiction visionary with the release of Blade Runner, one of the most influential films of the 1980s.
Since then he has directed fantasy epics, action films, buddy road films, historical dramas, psychological horror films, war films, gangster films and so much more - and all with a consistently high quality. Perhaps the two things that link most of his films together are the striking imagery and his portrayals of strong female leads.
Even his films that aren't regarded as his very best are works of art. American Gangster is one of the most thought provoking and epic crime dramas of the last twenty years and Black Hawk down is a violent, brutal and visceral take on the war genre.
Of course he has returned to the Alien franchise with the releases of both Prometheus and Alien: Covenent. Although these are nowhere near his best efforts, they still contain the visual grandeur that marks a film as a Ridley Scott one.
Ridley Scott is truly a directing great, and this is down to his willingness to reinvent himself at every opportunity.
