10 Most Embarrassing Moments For Comic Book Villains

5. "Mapone" (Daredevil: End Of Days)

Daredevil End of Days Bullseye Mapone
Marvel Comics

Although Bullseye has developed something of a reputation for being one of Daredevil's most formidable adversaries, the character started out life as something of a joke - an incompetent, bumbling assassin outmatched, outflanked and outclassed by the Kingpin's preferred killer, Elektra.

Of course, we all know how that storyline worked out. Bullseye murders his rival, breaks everyone's hearts and sets about carving out a place as one of Daredevil's most formidable foes. While he'd struggle to get the upper hand over Horn Head, in End of Days - a storyline set in the not so distant future - he succeeds in killing him.

That's not all though. Apart from the comic being one of Brian Bendis' best, DD departs the mortal coil with one last word: "Mapone".

Longtime friend of Daredevil, Ben Urich, spends the rest of the series deducing the meaning of the phrase, but not before Bullseye kills himself, having been bested even in death by his greatest adversary. That has to sting, and while it's not embarrassing as much as it is a fitting conclusion to the Devil-Bullseye dynamic, defeats don't get any heavier than this, particularly when there's no way to exact revenge seeing as how - y'know - Matt's dead and all.
