10 Most Forgettable Superhero Movies Since 2000
2. Thor: The Dark World
Described by one critic as “the definition of house style”, this sequel pumps up the action and the effects and loses everything that made the original worth your while. There’s no human element here, no charm, and no resonance. It’s basically two hours of watching people run around for some reason or other.
In a perfect world, this movie would’ve deepened the mythos and beefed up its central character, introducing an element that threatened his relationship with Jane Foster before leading to much brooding followed by an epic battle. Instead, we get to see 62 year old Stellan Skarsgard running around without pants, and enough said.
Little more than a transition between Iron Man 3 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Dark World’s remit appears to have been to keep the cinematic universe ticking over until the next picture comes along. Which it does. But anyone who wants some actual entertainment should look elsewhere.
