6. Darkest Hour

Brie Larson Free Fire
Working Title Films

If seeing the image of Gary Oldman in the full Winston Churchill costume for Darkest Hour, the upcoming historical-war drama about the most famous UK Prime Minister's struggles during the early days of the Second World War, donned with fat suit and a whole load of prosthetics, isn't enough to make you excited for this one, then maybe the other talent attached will do the trick.

The film is directed by Joe Wright, a director well-versed in making period dramas such as Atonement and Pride & Prejudice. And if action scenes depicting the war are to be shown, it's fair to assume that Wright will handle these brilliantly as well judging by how awesome the action in Hanna was. Also the pressure may be on Wright his last film Pan, which was released last year, was mauled by critics and general viewers alike, so with something to prove he will be bringing out all the stops to make this a riveting, fascinating drama about the British Bulldog in Britain's and mainland Europe's hour of need.

Gary Oldman will undoubtedly do the late Prime Minister's memory and legacy justice, and he will receive more than worthy support from a host of terrific actors, including screen legend John Hurt as Neville Chamberlain, the Prime Minister that preceded Churchill, Australian Ben Mendelsohn, an interesting choice for King George VI, and Kristin Scott Thomas as Winston's wife, Clementine.

History buffs will have to wait until November to hear Oldman channelling Churchill's trademark wit while puffing on a cigar.
