Those lucky enough to have caught Ben Wheatley's Free Fire earlier this year at either the Toronto International Film Festival or the London Film Festival will be able to show off their good luck to the rest of us who will have to settle for seeing the film upon its general release in March. But if early reviews, the strength of the cast, and the excellent trailer are anything to go by, then it will be more than worth the short wait.

Free Fire tells the story of a group of arms dealers who meet in a warehouse only for the deal to turn south and descend into full blown carnage. Wheatley is a director celebrated for his pitch black sense of humour, deplorable characters, and unflinching violence, but his past films have often been hit and miss with regular film-goers, as films such as High-Rise and A Field in England have sometimes proven too cerebral for the masses. Free Fire, on the other hand, looks set to be Wheatley's most commercial film to date, but judging by the trailer he hasn't forsaken any of the trademark conventions that has made him one of the most fascinating filmmakers to emerge from the UK in recent years.

The film is fleshed out by a sublime cast consisting of Brie Larson, Sharlto Copley, Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley, and many more. Honestly, who doesn't want to see these actors riddling one another with enough bullets to make Scarface feel queasy? Free Fire could yet prove to be Wheatley's most entertaining film yet.
