During the Carbonite freezing scene in The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader intervenes when Boba Fett raises his blaster rifle towards Chewbacca who is attacking Stormtroopers.

At this moment in the film, Chewbacca is also carrying the partially assembled C-3PO on his back. Is it possible that Anakin/Vader fondly remembers the protocol droid he built for his mother during his childhood and therefore intervened to save him from destruction? That's certainly what this fan theory suggests.

Perhaps not so far-fetched sounding at first, until remembering that this Darth Vader we are talking about and him having a soppy attachment to the chatty droid seems doubtful. It is also worth bearing in mind that this film came out long before The Phantom Menace, and it's unlikely George Lucas had yet decided on C-3PO's origins.

It is more likely that Vader was showing a display of power over Fett and did not want Chewbacca or Leia to be harmed, however it is fun to speculate and find ties between the Original and Prequel trilogies.
