6. Wesley Snipes As Blade

Now mostly reduced to a laughing stock thanks to tax evasion-induced jail time and a run of crappy direct-to-video films to pay his bail, there was a time when Wesley Snipes was a genuine Hollywood star. After his gloriously unhinged turn opposite Sylvester Stallone in Demolition Man, the most intense performance of career is undoubtedly as the Daywalker. The character softened a little in the sequels but that first Blade movie, man, Snipes was...kind of terrifying. And managed to sell what could've been clunky one-liners like "some motherf*cker's always trying to ice skate uphill". He's a taciturn, moody character but leaves an impression that most such action heroes don't. That's partly down to the fact that this particular taciturn, moody action hero is half-vampire. And the rest is down to Snipes. There's not a moment in Blade where he doesn't completely embody the character, and all the ensuing intensity therein. The action scenes are great. He pops a woman's dislocated shoulder back into place without missing a beat. He tortures a big fat vamp using a UV torch. He's the most terrifying superhero there's ever been.
