10 Most Intense Comic Book Movie Performances Ever

5. Mickey Rourke As Marv

Sin City's not a perfect film. Not by a long shot. Co-directing with comic book creator Fank Miller Robert Rodriguez appeared more concerned bringing the visual style of the source material to life and sticking religiously to the story than trying to adapt them into film, which means that whilst it's very pretty, much of the action and acting falls flat. Even with an all-star cast that includes Bruce Willis, Carla Gugino, Clive Owen, Rosario Dawson and Benicio Del Toro, most of the performances are wooden and forgettable. Sin City is supposed to be stylised, but for the most part it tips over into just being cheesy and terrible. The one exception is Mickey Rourke as Marv. Trading on his real-life history of, ahem, having a really messed-up face and his best days being behind him, Rourke brought a real-life weight to the hulking brute with a heart of gold, probably the only fully-realised and totally intense performance in a film as flat as its comic book inspiration.
